Adonis Effect | Not Your Average Fitness Tips

Adonis Effect

What is the Adonis Effect by Brad Howard in conjunction with John Barban and Brad Pilon?

The Adonis Effect takes a completely unique approach to muscle building.  The book’s premise is that you are training for an ideal type of body that is physically attractive to women.  The theory is that women are attracted to a particular body shape and that you can gain muscle in specific areas of your body while still losing weight to create an ideal look.

Based on research studies, there are specific shoulder and waist ratios that are attractive for a given height.  The Adonis Effect refers to this as the golden ratio.  The book focuses on achieving the golden ratio through diet and exercise programs unique to each individual’s current body shape.

Who are Brad Howard, John Barban and Brad Pilon?

Brad Howard is the author of Fat Loss Black Book that “delves into the “meat and potatoes” of all of the misinformation generated by the diet and fitness industry today.”

John Barban is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a varsity strength and conditioning coach as well as a successful entrepreneur. John also has extensive experience developing and formulating nutritional sports supplements, and has worked for some of largest nutritional supplement companies in the world.

Brad Pilon is a nutrition professional with over seven years experience in the nutritional supplement industry.  Brad has his masters degree in human nutrition and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.  Among other things, he is author of Eat Stop Eat and How Much Protein.

What did I like about the Adonis Effect?

The Adonis Effect really puts you on a path to an actual end goal: to build the perfect body.  This is different than many other programs that just aim to make you bigger or stronger.  The big and bulky look does not necessarily equate to physical attractiveness.

One of the best features of the Adonis Effect is the level of customization.  Nutrition is divided into 9 separate 12 week programs depending on your height to waist ratio.  Exercise routines are built around your shoulder to waist ratio and include 3 separate 12 week programs.

The Adonis Effect is packed full of additional information about bodybuilding’s negative influence on the fitness industry, supplements, detailed exercise instructions/pictures, and even confidence building.

What didn’t I like about the Adonis Effect?

The Adonis Effect is really a complete system.  However, there is a certain level of unconventional thinking associated with the program so be prepared for some so-called “truths” to be debunked.  The only other downside is that it is designed specifically for males.  If your goal is to be more attractive, this program will help get you there.

Is the Adonis Effect an effective exercise program?

The Adonis Effect is certainly an effective diet and exercise program.  Very few programs create a customized diet and exercise routine to achieve an ideal v-shaped torso based on proven research studies.

Who should use the Adonis Effect?

The Adonis Effect is designed specifically for males seeking the ideal body proportions.  What guy wouldn’t want that?

Bottom Line Recommendation

If you’re ready to work toward the actual goal of having a perfect body as defined by physical attractiveness, then the Adonis Effect can help get you there.  If nothing else, it will provide a valuable education on a lot of fitness myths.

Compared to Visual Impact Muscle Building, if you had to choose one program, which one would you say is the best?

  • Michael,
For me personally, I enjoy Visual Impact. It’s given me the tools I need to craft my own workout approach. That being said, the Adonis Effect is pretty cool in that it targets ratios of height to waist and shoulders to waist and customizes a workout based on your current proportions. I’d recommend picking one and sticking to it. If you don’t like it, you can always switch.

Whats the difference between the Adonis Effect and Adonis Index system 3.0 edition?

  • Michael,
When I wrote the original review, it was the Adonis Effect. It’s since evolved into Adonis Index Workout or Adonis Index Systems 3.0.

  • Nick:

I was all ready to check it out when I got to the website and bam… some weird Max Headroom guy started speaking to me! Why couldn’t they just have recorded a video of a real person?!

  • Nick,
The Adonis guys have updated their links since I first created this review. I updated my links to take you to a page that describes the workout in more detail:
    Adonis Effect
Sorry about that…I always hated that first link as well!

  • I have an interest in building muscle because I am in my sixties and have had a stroke. I had really let my body go to waste. I never thought older guys could build a buff body but I was sure wrong. Books targeted specifically to men such as the the Adonis Effect give meaningful advice.

  • Frank,
You’re right, it’s never too late to get in shape. Glad you’ve built a healthier body after suffering a stroke.

  • shanky:

In this adonis effect workout , is their any kind of supplements included in the diet ???

  • Shanky,
Depends on what you define as supplements. Use of protein powder is suggested. Beyond that, there’s only really one supplement proven to add muscle.

  • shanky:

    Hey,
thanx for the reply, but i don’t wanna take any kind of supplement whether it be protein powder,
so will it work for me ?

  • Shanky,
You can substitute for the protein shakes so you should still see results. Just make sure you’re getting enough protein.
