I recently completed Joel Marion’s Xtreme Fat Loss Diet. It’s a rapid fat loss diet designed to help you lose up to 25 pounds in 25 days. Are the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet results really that impressive? What sacrifices are you going to have to make along the way? Read my Xtreme Fat Loss Diet review to find out the answers to these and more.
Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Results
I’ll be honest. When I first picked up Joel Marion’s Xtreme Fat Loss Diet, I was floored. There were a number of exceptionally good tips, many of which I had already implemented into my own diet program. However, a lot of the recommendations were more extreme than I expected. After reading through the suggested workout routines, I firmly decided that the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet just wasn’t right for me at this point in time.
Then I read it over again. Then I looked at my schedule and decided that I could make a few sacrifices to give the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet a try. I made some changes to the exercise portion of the program to fit with my lifestyle and off I went. I made it through 20 days before switching to my own modified version of the routine. The Xtreme Fat Loss Diet results certainly exceeded my expectations. I lost 8lbs of fat in 24 days with no muscle loss. While I’m not typically a big fan of rapid fat loss diets, this one accomplished its goal. See my previous post on Measuring Body Fat Percentage & Measuring Muscle Mass Percentage for more information on tracking results.

Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Review
What did I like most about the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet? The fact that I could eat whatever I wanted every 5 days. Cheat days help you maintain your sanity and also increase leptin levels, preventing your metabolism from tanking during a calorie restrictive diet. The diet also incorporated intermittent fasting which I’ve been a huge fan of since reading Eat Stop Eat. Throw in some carb cycling and it really melded everything together nicely.
What didn’t I like about the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet? It was really, really hard! It’s not just a clever name, it truly is extreme. Non cheat days are highly restrictive. There’s also a hefty exercise component. The good news is that even though I had a few missteps on the dieting portion and didn’t do nearly as much exercise as recommended, I still saw excellent results.

A Rapid Fat Loss Diet that Works
I think the best thing about the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet is that it appears to work for everyone. If you have a lot of weight to lose, it will be a considerable help. Even if you’re lean, it will make you leaner. It was the perfect rapid fat loss diet approach for me after a 10 day vacation that included eating out at every meal and far too much ice cream! One caveat is that this is not a beginner’s approach. I would absolutely recommend having a baseline level of fitness before attempting it. My final recommendation is to plan your 25 days in advance. I knew exactly what I was going to do every day of the routine. You’ll have to make some lifestyle sacrifices but my Xtreme Fat Loss Diet results speak for themselves.
Wow, those are some great results. 8lbs lost with visual improvements, even plus or minus a pound, is great. Joel’s always going to be a little more on the controversial side, but his reader’s results really do speak for themselves.
Dave,
I’m a big fan of Joel Marion’s work. Following XFLD exactly must have been very challenging. I haven’t tried it to the letter yet, I’ve just applied some of the concepts to my normal routine and made some very helpful tweaks, particularly with the timing of fasting and cheating. I may give it a shot if I need to get “event ready” because I believe this is truly the best short-term fat loss program out there.

Ahmed,
I was pretty surprised at the results especially since I had already been doing a lot of the recommendations.
Alykhan,
I followed the dieting almost exactly to specification…a couple minor tweaks but that’s it. I couldn’t bring myself to do the exercise portion. Despite Roman’s awesome tips and reputation, at this point in my life, I didn’t feel like learning new exercises or a new style of training. It is a great way to get in shape in less than a month. I will probably do it once a year after the holiday season to quickly eliminate weight gain.
Dave
Hey,
I bought this a couple of weeks back, never actually got around to doing it as I was leaving for holiday. Might try it out soon, the only problem I have with it was all the up sells, I hate those! Also it is a bit vague with the diet side in my opinion, however 8lbs in 20 days is very good.
Sam,
I hated all that stuff too…plus there was such a big hype surrounding the launch. However, it’s definitely worthwhile. If you follow it exactly, you’ll achieve amazing results. Even with all the corners I cut, I’m very pleased.
Dave
Dave,
Glad to see you gave it a try. I always like it when people try something themselves before talking about it on their blog. I trust your opinion more because I know that you actually did it.

Dave,
I have never heard of the program before; but, I am glad you have gotten such great results.
Bryan

@Sam Childs & Dave
WAY overkill (in my opinion) on the up-sells as well.
I bought it during the massive hype event but haven’t tried it out yet either. I’m going to start it soon and track it like you did Dave … thanks for the little extra motivation/boost & idea!
It does seem like a solid program and I did pick up some great points from scanning through it a while back.
Kelly,
I didn’t want to just buy into the hype like everyone else. I had to find out if it really was as effective as advertised.
Bryan,
It’s a good program and one that I would recommend for someone willing to stay 100% focused for 25 days.
Daniel,
It sounds like a comparable approach to what Joel Marion describes in Cheat Your Way Thin and Xtreme Fat Loss Diet. I’d definitely do this as a short term routine.
Kevin,
Unfortunately I agree on the upsells…seems inevitable with every fitness product launch. Before you try it, I’d recommend mapping out your plan of attack. There’s no way I could have succeeded if I just jumped right in because I had to plan around birthday parties, 4th of July, business lunches, etc.

As a former wrestler, losing a lot of weight quickly (and over and over again) is not new. Because of the extremely low BF% (5 to 7%) that most higher level competitors compete at, it’s extremely difficult to hold that weight, so your average college wrestler “floats” 8 to 12 pounds, which basically means if their weight class is 150, they walk around (in very good shape and very lean) at 158 to 162. The “cut” is always water and it’s not unusual for someone to drop 6 pounds in a couple of hours (again, all water).
The reason I bring this up is it’s not “real weight”, and many of these extreme weight loss programs are not real weight either. Yes the scale may say you’ve lost 7 pounds in 3 days, but you have not had a caloric deficit of over 24,000 calories in 3 days, even Michael Phelps at the peak of his training might have a hard time with that one. And if you did, you’d hardly be able to lift up your head, you body would be exhausted and literally running on empty. The other thing that happens, and it’s based on around 60,000 years of evolution, is you would begin to cut into you muscle mass in a big way, if you were starving yourself to that level you body wants to protect your fat stores for as long as possible, so you begin to use muscle as fuel.
Real fat comes off in ‘sheets’ and it comes off your entire body, and it takes time. People will tend to notice it in their faces first, and men tend to hold on to it around their waists and women in their hips and upper legs, the so called “troubled areas”. This is because that’s where the most fat is stored. It’s not that you are not losing the fat there, it’s just there is typically more there to lose.
And probably the biggest issue with these rapid weight loss programs is that when people do “go back to normal” eating, and they will, because there’s no way you can do these things over the long haul, then tend to gain all the weight back and then some.
Unless you’re cutting for a purpose, the best thing to do is stick with the old fashion good hard workout and eat clean.
It sounds like a program that would only work temporarily. You may lose 25lbs in 25 days but how many lbs do you gain back in the following month?
Rick,
You bring up a lot of excellent points especially about water weight. That’s why it’s important to track measurements and body appearance. I’d definitely agree that long term programs are the way to go but this was a nice one time fix in preparation for a Bermuda vacation.
Srdjan,
That’s the big question. One thing that makes this more realistic than most programs is that you do regulate your metabolism. The approach isn’t to simply eat 1,000 calories per day. By keeping leptin levels in line, there shouldn’t be as much of a temptation to binge and rapidly expand your waistline after. You do need a good long term approach for sure though.
Dave
I’m doing this diet now, today is my 16th day and I’ve lost 9 pounds of pure fat, I agree when you say it’s not a beginner’s diet. I’m not doing the workouts included, I’m doing the final phase fat loss workouts by John Romaniello too. I didn’t get the protein Joel recommends and I got much cheaper bcaas too, and still I’m getting great results. This diet really works, but is hard.
Julian,
Congrats on your success so far! The great thing about the diet is that it’s so challenging that you can make minor changes and still see excellent results. Hope the final 9 days go well.
